You’ll join Actemium Automation Huddersfield, part of VINCI Energies, as a Senior Software Controls Engineer. In this hands‑on role you will design, develop and support PLC and SCADA software solutions for industrial automation projects across manufacturing and process sectors. You will work closely with project teams, electricians, commissioning engineers and clients to deliver safe, reliable and efficient control systems that meet technical and commercial requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead software design, development and documentation for PLC (Mitsubishi and Schneider Electric) and SCADA/HMI systems.
- Create and maintain control system architecture, functional specifications, I/O lists and software build schedules.
- Develop structured, modular, and well‑commented code following company and industry standards (SIL/ISA where applicable).
- Support FATs, SATs and on‑site commissioning activities, including diagnostics, troubleshooting and software modifications.
- Integrate PLC/SCADA with field devices, industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus) and higher‑level systems (MES, ERP).
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, test plans, wiring and loop diagrams, and as‑built drawings.
- Mentor and support junior controls engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality and client site rules at all times.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in PLC and SCADA software engineering, ideally in a senior or lead role.
- Hands‑on experience with one or more PLC platforms (Mitsubishi and Schneider Electric).
- Familiarity with SCADA/HMI packages (Wonderware, Ignition, WinCC, FactoryTalk or similar).
- Strong understanding of industrial communications, I/O, instrumentation and control theory.
- Experience of commissioning and fault‑finding on live systems; comfortable working on client sites.
- Excellent technical documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal and mentoring skills; able to collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Relevant electrical or control engineering qualification and full UK driving licence.
