Why join Actemium Birmingham? Want to work on real‑world projects where your designs go from concept to manufacture? At Actemium (VINCI Energies), we deliver high‑quality control panel and BMS solutions across multiple sectors. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where your technical input directly shapes project success – not just produces drawings. We’re growing and looking for a BMS Panel Designer / Estimator who enjoys both technical design and commercial thinking, and wants to play a key role in delivering projects end‑to‑end.

What you’ll be doing:

  • In this dual role, you’ll bridge design and delivery – turning concepts into accurate, build‑ready solutions.
  • Design BMS control panels using AutoCAD or other electrical CAD tools.
  • Create schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts to industry standards.
  • Produce accurate estimates and bills of materials, including labour and components.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement to define scope and mitigate risks.
  • Liaise with suppliers to source components, pricing, and lead times.
  • Prepare complete build packs for the workshop (drawings, BOMs, instructions).
  • Support manufacturing with technical queries and test requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise designs, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Attend site visits and client meetings when needed.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who is technically strong but also commercially aware – someone who understands both how to design it and what it should cost.

Essential:

  • Experience in control panel or BMS design and/or estimating.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control systems, PLC I/O.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Ability to produce accurate costings and technical documentation.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects/quotes at once.

Desirable:

  • Experience with EPLAN or similar panel design software.
  • Background in automation, controls, or building management systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and panel compliance.
  • Supplier engagement / procurement experience.

What you’ll get in return:

  • Competitive salary with clear progression opportunities.
  • Access to training, development, and manufacturer certifications.
  • Opportunity to work on varied, technically interesting projects.
  • Supportive team with real input into decisions and designs.
  • Backing of VINCI Energies, offering long-term career pathways.
  • Health Shield, pension, and wider benefits.

Who this role suits:

  • This role is ideal if you enjoy combining design with commercial/estimating work.
  • Like seeing your designs built and delivered – not just drawn.
  • Want to grow in a business with real career progression.
  • Prefer a practical, collaborative environment over siloed roles.
