Mechanical Piping / Plant 3D Design – Designer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer

Main Responsibilities in Mechanical Piping and Plant 3D Engineering
- Develop and produce high-quality piping and plant layout designs, including 3D models, detailed drawings, technical calculations, and design documentation.
- Utilise 3D Plant Design software (such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, or PDMS/E3D) to create accurate, coordinated plant and piping arrangements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (process, EC&I, structural, and project management) to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Interpret, apply, and ensure compliance with all relevant mechanical and piping standards, codes, and statutory regulations.
- Undertake and review pipe stress analysis, equipment interface checks, and constructability assessments.
- Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, and risk assessments to develop safe, practical piping layouts and plant designs.
- Take part in site and plant surveys, liaise with suppliers and clients, and provide technical support through all project stages.
- Mentor and share expertise with junior designers and engineers, and help foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
Essential Skills & Experience for Mechanical Piping / Plant 3D Design Roles
- Qualification in mechanical engineering or piping design (Degree, HNC, HND or proven equivalent experience).
- Track record of delivering mechanical piping and plant layout designs—ideally within regulated sectors such as nuclear, process, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
- Proficiency using 3D Plant Design and CAD modelling software (e.g. AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, Aveva E3D, or PDMS).
- Good working knowledge of piping systems, pressure equipment, and plant design best practices.
- Understanding of relevant UK/international piping standards and statutory requirements.
- Strong communication skills—able to explain technical issues clearly to colleagues, suppliers, and clients.
- Attention to detail, with analytical thinking and a proactive attitude towards process improvement.
- Full UK driving licence or the ability to travel to client/project sites, as required.
