About the Role
As a Principal Hardware Design Engineer, you will design, develop, and deliver high‑quality industrial control panels and systems across a variety of projects—primarily in the food and beverage sector. Your work will directly support major UK and international clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Design industrial control panels, MCCs, and automation hardware to meet specifications and safety standards (IEC, UL, BS EN)
- Produce schematics, block diagrams, general arrangements, and wiring schedules
- Create detailed documentation including equipment lists, cable schedules, and BOMs
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians throughout delivery
- Support procurement and resolve technical queries during assembly, installation, and commissioning
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and improvement initiatives
- Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, or automation hardware
- Strong CAD and electrical schematic design skills
- Knowledge of industry standards (BS EN 61439, IEC 60204, UL508A)
- Understanding of PLCs, relays, safety devices, VSDs, HMIs, etc.
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Food & beverage sector experience is a plus
