The Opportunity

This permanent role reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager and Workshop Supervisor. The Panel Wirer will provide technical expertise and support in the assembly of control system activities, meeting agreed production quantity and quality targets safely. Responsibilities include documenting method statements, meeting H&S requirements, and achieving output, quality, waste, yield, and safety targets.

Required Abilities

  • Interpret GA diagrams for measuring, marking out, drilling, tapping, component and equipment layout of control panel chassis plates.
  • Have excellent mechanical knowledge and use various hand & power tools for accurate marking & cutting of enclosures and equipment.
  • Assemble panels & assemblies from GA’s or instructions in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
  • Interpret and understand schematic diagrams; wire control panels and equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Test & commission control panels with minimal supervision.
  • Fault find control panels & equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Work on customer premises with minimal supervision, following all H&S requirements.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Use safety equipment and PPE provided.
  • Exercise reasonable care towards oneself and responsibility for the H&S of others.
  • Comply with safe working practices and procedures at all times.
  • Co‑operate with management and safety representatives to maintain high safety and housekeeping standards, establishing a positive QESH culture.
  • Maintain good timekeeping.

Working Environment

Manufacturing environment requiring frequent lifting of materials. Machinery operation requires safety equipment such as eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats. Loose fitting clothes and jewellery are not permitted.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice trained desirable and/or 5+ years of significant hands‑on experience.
  • Safety awareness, able to work to documentation such as method statements and risk assessments.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • Manual dexterity for wiring, drilling, and fixing down tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with willingness to learn new skills.
  • Strong aptitude to learn from and influence others, communicating effectively at all levels.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and approach to colleagues and customers.
  • Approachable and personable in relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Abide by all rules and laws when travelling on company business.
  • Highly self‑motivated, enthusiastic individual with good team working skills.
  • Current driving licence (required to drive company vans at times of site work).
