We are looking for a Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities Team and support the upkeep, safety and maintenance of our training centres and offices across South Wales.

This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You’ll carry out general maintenance and repairs, complete planned preventative maintenance checks and respond to maintenance issues across our buildings.

Based primarily at our Ocean Park House site in Cardiff, you will also travel to other ACT sites across South Wales, including Caerphilly, Bridgend, Barry, Aberdare, Ebbw Vale, Pontypool and Blaenavon.

You’ll play an important role in keeping our buildings safe, well maintained and fit for purpose, while supporting ACT’s commitment to quality, sustainability and improving lives through learning.

Working hours

The role is for 25 hours per week, worked as follows:

All shifts include a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

What you’ll do:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance to buildings, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
  • Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks, including water hygiene checks, tap temperature monitoring and flushing regimes.
  • Repairing and maintaining doors, locks, door closers and other building fixtures.
  • Responding promptly to maintenance issues and emergency repair requests.
  • Supporting refurbishment, renovation and decoration projects, including plaster repairs, drywall work and painting.
  • Assisting with manual handling tasks and moving equipment and items around our centres.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and scheduled inspections.
  • Obtaining quotations for repairs and materials and ordering parts where required.
  • Working closely with colleagues, contractors and managers to resolve maintenance issues effectively.
  • Supporting quality improvement activities and contributing to organisational objectives.
  • Promoting and supporting ACT’s sustainability commitments.
  • Working in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, GDPR and organisational policies.
  • Keeping your knowledge and skills up to date through ongoing training and professional development.

What we are looking for

Experience

Proven experience of carrying out general maintenance tasks to a good standard.

Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your own workload.

Working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements relating to general maintenance and safe systems of work.

Other

A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between ACT sites across South Wales.

Experience

Experience of supporting or coordinating maintenance, refurbishment or improvement projects.
