Business Insights Analyst in Cardiff

About The Role

The Business Insights Analyst will lead the development and delivery of ACT’s business insight and performance intelligence, turning complex organisational data into meaningful, decision-ready insight that supports planning, decision‑making and continuous improvement.

This is a role for someone who is naturally curious and analytical, enjoys exploring data beyond routine reporting, and can identify trends, relationships, emerging issues and opportunities. You will work with both technical and non-technical colleagues to understand organisational questions, develop appropriate analytical approaches and turn complex findings into clear, accessible and engaging insight.

You will use tools such as Power BI, data visualisation and, where appropriate, AI-enabled analytical techniques to bring data to life through reporting, storytelling and visualisation.

Your Impact

You will play a key role in helping ACT understand what our data is telling us and, importantly, why it matters.

• Lead ACT’s business insight and performance intelligence activity.
• Explore complex data to identify trends, relationships, anomalies, emerging issues and opportunities.
• Go beyond routine reporting to uncover the factors and patterns behind performance and outcomes.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, reports and analytical products using tools such as Power BI.
• Translate complex analysis into clear and engaging insight for a range of audiences.
• Use data visualisation and storytelling to make information meaningful and accessible.
• Provide analytical input into strategic planning, evaluation and organisational decision‑making.
• Support baselining, trend analysis and performance assessment.
• Work with Digital Transformation, system owners and colleagues to improve data quality, accessibility and analytical capability.
• Help build ACT’s organisational capability to use data and evidence effectively.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone with experience of analysing complex datasets and turning data into meaningful business insight.

• Experience identifying patterns, trends, relationships and anomalies within complex datasets.
• Experience producing business insight to support organisational understanding, decision‑making and improvement.
• Experience using data and evidence to inform planning and strategic decisions.
• Experience with data visualisation and communicating analytical findings effectively.
• Experience working with stakeholders to understand organisational questions and develop appropriate analytical approaches.
• Strong analytical and statistical skills.
• Experience using reporting and analytical tools such as Power BI, alongside strong data manipulation skills.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to different audiences.
• Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• A relevant qualification in a numerate or analytical discipline, or equivalent professional experience in data analysis, statistics or business insight.
• A strong understanding of data quality, analytical methodology and the appropriate interpretation of statistical evidence.

Experience using AI-enabled analytical tools, agents or techniques would be desirable.

Experience

Essential requirements

Strong analytical and statistical capability, with evidence of identifying meaningful trends, patterns, relationships, anomalies or previously unidentified insights from data.

Experience of translating complex data and analysis into clear, engaging and easily understood insight for colleagues and stakeholders at different levels, including non-technical audiences.

Experience of using data-led evidence and insight to inform organisational planning, strategic decision‑making or improvement activity, rather than solely producing operational reporting.

Experience of effective data visualisation and analytical reporting, using appropriate tools and techniques to make information accessible, meaningful and actionable.

Evidence of curiosity and proactive analytical thinking, including the ability to ask effective questions of data, investigate beyond established reporting requirements and identify areas worthy of further exploration.

Experience of working collaboratively across an organisation to understand analytical needs, coordinate reporting or insight activity, and improve how data is understood and used.

Proven background in business insight, data analysis or a comparable analytical role, with experience working with complex organisational datasets

Qualifications & Knowledge
