The Role

As a Higher Level Learning Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), both within and outside the classroom.

You will work closely with teaching staff to help learners engage with their studies, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes while promoting independence wherever possible.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with additional learning needs.
  • Delivering targeted interventions that support academic progress and personal development.
  • Encouraging student participation and helping remove barriers to learning.
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of student support.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of individual learning and support plans, including EHCPs.
  • Preparing learning resources and supporting classroom activities.
  • Building positive relationships with students, parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Supporting educational visits, enrichment activities and college events.
  • Providing classroom cover where required.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding at all times.
  • Contributing to an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.

About You

We're looking for someone who is patient, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting young people.

You will ideally have:

Essential

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting young people in an educational, care or support setting.
  • An understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and other digital systems.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to supporting learners.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable

  • Level 3 qualification in Education, Learning Support or a related subject.
  • Experience working within Further Education.
  • Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
