The Role
As Construction Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining workshops, preparing materials and equipment for practical sessions, and supporting teaching staff with the smooth day-to-day operation of construction facilities.
You will ensure equipment is well maintained, stock levels are managed effectively, and workshop areas remain clean, organised and compliant with health and safety standards.
Working alongside lecturers and instructors, you'll also provide practical support during workshop activities, helping to create a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare workshops, tools and materials ready for practical teaching sessions.
- Organise, issue and replenish consumable materials and equipment.
- Maintain stock levels and process orders for materials and supplies.
- Carry out routine checks, basic maintenance and minor repairs to workshop equipment.
- Keep workshops, preparation areas and storage facilities clean, tidy and fit for purpose.
- Maintain accurate records, including stock inventories and equipment registers.
- Assist teaching staff during practical sessions by supporting workshop activities where required.
- Monitor the safe use and storage of tools, machinery and materials.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures.
- Support the security and upkeep of workshop resources and facilities.
- Contribute to the efficient operation and continuous improvement of the department.
- Encourage positive student behaviour and help create an inclusive learning environment.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the wellbeing of all learners.
- Champion equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the role.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the position as required.
About You
You'll be a practical and organised individual with experience within the construction or building services industry and enjoy working in a collaborative educational environment.
You'll be proactive, reliable and capable of managing your workload while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Essential Requirements
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent).
- Experience working within the construction or building services sector.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
- A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and students.
- Flexible approach to working hours when required.
