Technical Assistant – Food Manufacturing (Chilled Environment)
Location: Northampton
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Our client is currently seeking a Technical Assistant to join its Technical & Quality team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional looking to bring their technical expertise into a fast-paced, high-risk chilled environment, contributing to the production of meat products.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance of key site certifications, including BRCGS, Red Tractor, Organic, BMPA.
- Conduct internal audits and oversee testing schedules for products, raw materials, and environment.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of product and raw material specifications, as well as ensuring up-to-date labelling compliance with food law.
- Work collaboratively with the Quality and Production teams to drive standards in GMP, hygiene, and product quality.
- Participate in root cause investigations, develop Quality Action Plans, and support continuous improvement projects.
- Collect samples for microbiological and analytical testing (e.g., pH, salt content) and act upon results.
- Contribute to staff training, supplier approval activities, and support NPD trials when required.
- Ensure the Quality Management System is robust, compliant, and audit-ready.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 3 years\’ experience in a technical or quality role within the chilled food manufacturing sector.
- Strong working knowledge of food safety, quality systems, and relevant legislation/standards (BRCGS, HACCP, Food Labelling, etc.).
- Experience working with retailers and third-party audits.
- Background in meat processing.
- Able to demonstrate problem-solving ability, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
- Holds a relevant Food Science or Technology qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Internal auditing and HACCP training/qualification are beneficial.
