Overview
We are working with a growing and entrepreneurial financial services business based on Finchley Road, London, who are looking to appoint a Senior Credit Underwriter to join their expanding Credit team. This is a key role within the business, offering exposure across unsecured and secured SME lending, with additional involvement in asset finance and property development products. You will play an active role in shaping credit philosophy, supporting operational efficiency, and mentoring junior team members. Reporting directly to the Head of Credit, successful candidates will be granted a credit sign-off mandate and will contribute to streamlining end-to-end credit decisioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and analyse SME loan applications for serviceability and affordability in line with credit policy
- Conduct second-line reviews as part of a four-eyes underwriting process
- Provide accurate reporting and analysis on non-performing loans, feeding back to senior management
- Actively participate in monthly Credit Committee meetings, clearly articulating credit decisions and risk appetite
- Contribute to continuous process improvement, including the adoption of advanced technology solutions
- Support day-to-day underwriting operations to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met
- Assist with the development, guidance, and mentoring of junior underwriters
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 4 years’ SME lending experience
- Previous credit sign-off mandate essential
- Self-motivated, resilient, and able to work under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical ability with the confidence to present findings to stakeholders at all levels
- Commercially minded with a growth mindset
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving business environment
