We're looking for an Estimator to take ownership of preparing accurate and competitive quotations for engineering and fabrication projects. This role suits someone who combines strong technical understanding with analytical thinking - someone who can translate complex drawings and specifications into clear, reliable cost models.
The Estimator will work closely with engineering, procurement, and sales teams to develop detailed project estimates that balance technical scope, manufacturability, risk, and margin. The position requires both precision and creativity - understanding how things are built, what they cost, and how to optimise solutions without compromising quality.
It's ideal for someone with a background in mechanical or process engineering and experience in estimating or proposals within fabrication, pressure vessels, or similar technical industries. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to project success from the earliest stage.
If you enjoy technical problem-solving, attention to detail, and seeing how your work underpins real-world projects, this role offers a meaningful way to apply both engineering knowledge and commercial awareness.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret customer requirements, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate cost models and quotations.
- Prepare detailed estimates covering materials, fabrication, labour, subcontracting, and logistics.
- Balance cost, technical feasibility, and risk to ensure competitive bids.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and sales throughout the quotation process.
- Review project outcomes to refine estimating accuracy and support continuous improvement.
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
- 3+ years' experience in estimating or proposals, ideally within fabrication, pressure vessels, or thermal equipment.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, forming, machining).
- Familiarity with ASME, TEMA, or API standards (advantageous).
- Skilled in MS Excel, ERP systems, and estimating software.
