Design Engineer - Power Supply in Reading

The Power Supply Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical design, development, and delivery of high-performance AC-DC switch-mode power supplies, ensuring they meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets. The role requires 5+ years of hands-on experience in power supply design and includes both technical design work and mentoring of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development

• Design all sections of AC-DC switch-mode power supplies.
• Optimise designs to meet technical specifications, cost, and project timelines.
• Ensure manufacturability, reliability, and ease of integration for mass production.
• Select and manage electronic components considering availability, cost, and obsolescence.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary R&D teams (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing).
• Innovate and apply new technologies and topologies in product design.

Documentation & Project Delivery

• Create and review engineering documentation to support manufacturing handover.
• Participate in design reviews, testing, and verification activities.
• Ensure all project deliverables and milestones are met.
• Report design status and resolve technical queries.

Customer & Cross-functional Support

• Work closely with other departments to meet project needs and customer expectations.
• Provide ongoing technical support and respond to design-related queries.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor\’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
• 5+ years experience in AC-DC switch-mode power supply design.

• Strong knowledge of:

• Power topologies
• EMC and thermal management
• Magnetic, analogue, and digital circuit design
• Experience in design from concept through to production.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, collaborative team player with a proactive approach.
