The Opportunity
We're looking for a
Junior Technical Support Engineer to join a growing technical operations team.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone at the beginning of their technical career who enjoys understanding how systems work, solving real-world problems and developing their skills across networking, devices, infrastructure and technical operations.
You might already have experience working in IT support, infrastructure, field engineering or technical operations.
Equally, you may have developed strong practical skills through projects, home labs, qualifications or study and are looking for the opportunity to put those skills into practice professionally.
You’ll work with technology deployed across multiple locations, helping to keep systems and devices operational, investigating faults and supporting the wider team with day-to-day technical challenges.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include
- Troubleshooting technical issues across devices, networks and operating systems.
- Diagnosing faults methodically and identifying root causes rather than simply treating symptoms.
- Supporting remotely deployed devices and systems across multiple locations.
- Investigating connectivity, networking and device configuration issues.
- Working with Windows environments, including system configuration, command-line tools and event logs.
- Supporting secure remote access and following good security practices.
- Maintaining accurate technical documentation, tickets and operational records.
- Helping create and improve SOPs, troubleshooting guides and internal documentation.
- Supporting device management, inventory and technical operations processes.
- Working with technical and non-technical colleagues to resolve issues.
- Supporting occasional site visits when hands-on investigation is required.
- Learning new technologies and gradually taking on greater technical responsibility as your experience develops.
- What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to know everything already.
We’re particularly interested in candidates who have strong technical fundamentals, a logical approach to troubleshooting and a genuine desire to learn.
Ideally, you’ll have
- A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing and basic network troubleshooting.
- An understanding of VPNs and secure remote access.
- Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
- Familiarity with Windows event logs, command-line tools and system configuration.
- A structured and methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- An understanding of endpoint security and basic device compliance.
- A basic understanding of APIs and SQL.
- The ability to explain technical concepts clearly and without unnecessary jargon.
- Strong documentation and organisational habits.
- Around 1-2 years of hands-on experience in IT support, infrastructure, field engineering or technical operations or strong demonstrable technical fundamentals gained through projects, labs, qualifications or study.
Above all, we’re looking for evidence that you enjoy working with technology and can apply what you know to real problems.
- It Would Be Great If You Also Have
- Experience in any of the following would be useful, but isn’t essential:
- Configuring routers, switches or firewalls.
- Remote device management or Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
- IP CCTV, ANPR systems, Raspberry Pi or other edge/Io T devices.
- Cloud-hosted systems.
- Working with APIs or SQL.
- Microsoft 365 administration.
- Multi-site or distributed technology environments.
- Ticketing, operational tooling or password management platforms.
We’re more interested in your ability to learn and troubleshoot than in whether you’ve worked with a particular technology or vendor.
About You
You’ll enjoy this role if you’re someone who
- Is naturally curious about how technology works.
- Likes investigating problems and finding the underlying cause.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting for someone else to solve an issue.
- Remains calm and methodical when something isn't working.
- Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Keeps good records and understands the value of documentation.
- Is organised and reliable.
- Is comfortable working in a small, fast-moving technical environment.
- Wants to develop a broad technical skill set rather than being limited to one area of IT.
- Working Arrangements
The role is primarily based in
Croydon , with four days per week in the office and one day working from home.
There may occasionally be a need to visit other sites to investigate or support technical equipment. A full UK driving licence would therefore be useful, but is not essential.
