Maintenance Mechanical Fitter We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Mechanical Fitter to join a busy manufacturing and production environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical maintenance professional who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and keeping production machinery operating safely and efficiently. You will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of a variety of sheet metal working machinery and associated production equipment, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime and maximise equipment reliability. The Role As a Maintenance Mechanical Fitter, you will play an important role in ensuring production machinery, plant and equipment is maintained to a high standard. Your responsibilities will include: Maintaining and repairing production machinery in line with operational priorities. Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults and carrying out effective repairs. Responding efficiently to breakdowns to minimise production downtime. Completing planned and reactive maintenance activities. Recording maintenance work and ensuring accurate maintenance records are maintained. Installing and commissioning new equipment where required. Identifying and sourcing spare parts, components and equipment required for maintenance activities. Supporting the maintenance of the wider site, including building fixtures, fittings and support equipment. Installing items such as barriers, racking and other equipment when required. Identifying unsafe equipment and ensuring it is taken out of service until appropriate repairs have been completed. Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards within the maintenance department and across the site. Working in accordance with Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work. Participating in safety audits, risk assessments and site safety initiatives. Supporting continuous improvement projects designed to improve operational efficiency, reliability and working practices. Providing additional maintenance and operational support where appropriate. About You We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical maintenance background who is comfortable working within a fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environment. To be considered, you should have: A City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in a relevant mechanical or maintenance discipline. A time-served apprenticeship as a Maintenance Fitter or similar. At least 3 years' experience within an industrial maintenance environment. Strong mechanical fitting experience. Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics. Knowledge or experience of PLCs, sensors and control systems. Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills. The ability to work independently and use your own initiative. The ability to make effective decisions under pressure. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail and a logical, structured approach to fault finding. Desirable Experience It would be advantageous if you also have experience in some of the following areas: Maintenance supervision or maintenance planning. Line supervision or team leadership. Lean manufacturing and 5S principles. Health & Safety systems and reporting. COSHH and material safety data sheets. Continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment. Planning and coordinating maintenance activities. Coaching or supporting other members of a maintenance team. AutoCAD. Computerised maintenance or general IT systems. What We're Looking For You will be a practical, hands-on maintenance professional who takes pride in keeping machinery running safely and efficiently. You'll need to be comfortable diagnosing complex equipment problems, prioritising maintenance activities and working collaboratively with production, engineering and maintenance colleagues. Safety is a key part of the role, so you'll be expected to work to high standards at all times and proactively identify and address potential equipment or workplace risks.
