Are you a Service Advisor who knows how to build a job from start to finish? We're looking for an experienced Automotive Service Advisor to join a busy, well-established independent specialist workshop in Chelmsford. This is a great opportunity for someone who really knows their way around a workshop, understands vehicle repairs and is confident putting together accurate estimates.
We're not just looking for someone who can book a car in and greet customers. We need someone who can get stuck into the technical side of the role too, from identifying the correct parts and working out labour times to preparing quotations and explaining repairs to customers. If you've worked in an independent garage or specialist workshop where you've had to wear a few different hats, you'll probably feel right at home!
What you'll be doing:
- Taking customer bookings over the phone and online, and managing the workshop diary
- Welcoming customers and providing a friendly, professional front-of-house service
- Liaising with the Workshop Manager, Workshop Controller and Technicians to keep jobs running smoothly
- Identifying and sourcing the correct parts required for repairs and servicing
- Looking up labour times and preparing accurate repair estimates
- Reviewing Vehicle Health Checks (VHCs), costing additional work and explaining recommendations to customers
- Following up on estimates and gaining customer authorisation for repairs
- Identifying opportunities to maximise service sales while maintaining excellent customer service
- Keeping customers informed about the progress of their vehicles
What we're looking for:
- At least 5 years' experience in an automotive Service Advisor role
- Ideally, experience within an independent garage or specialist workshop
- Strong technical knowledge and a good understanding of vehicle repairs, parts and labour times
- Confidence building jobs and preparing accurate estimates from scratch
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved
- A full, clean UK driving licence
Experience using PartsLink24 and Autoworks Online would be a real advantage, although it's not essential. Please note: Previous motor trade experience is essential for this position. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applicants without relevant automotive experience.
What's on offer?
- Basic salary of Β£28,000βΒ£34,000, depending on experience
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays from 2027
- AXA healthcare from 2027
- Company pension
- Employee discount
- On-site parking
- The opportunity to work in a busy independent specialist environment where your knowledge and experience will be valued
Interested? If you're an experienced Service Advisor who enjoys dealing with customers, understands the technical side of the job and knows how to put together a repair estimate properly, we'd love to hear from you.
