The Technical Publications Author is responsible for providing customer quality deliverable documentation sufficient to maintain our delivered simulator devices. This may be in hardcopy and/or Electronic Documentation Facility format. The purpose of the role is to undertake technical publications and authoring activities to meet customer requirements, typically the creation of new or amendment of existing documents to enable the customer to maintain and operate a flight simulator device.
The Technical Publications Author has a further technical role in ensuring the manner in which technical problems are resolved is in line with local department and company procedures. If the role requires that staff are allocated for supervision, the Technical Publications Author is expected to manage them on a day-to-day basis by organising their pattern of work to make the most efficient and effective use of their time and capabilities and providing upon request a contribution towards their performance appraisal. Issues of resource requirements or risks to schedules or costs would be raised with the supervisor or Department Manager in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities And Tasks:
- Analysis of aircraft and equipment manufacturer’s data.
- Maintaining plans/schedules and reporting progress.
- Interfacing with customers.
- Creation and modification of documentation created in Arbortext or HTML.
- Creation and modification of illustrations and images to support documentation using suitable media creation software tools.
- Creation and modification of interactive electronic technical manuals.
- Interfacing with internal customers, product training, and design and support engineers.
- Maintain plans and schedules and report progress.
- Demonstrate the company ethos of Customer First, act fast, own it, and speak internally with candour.
Essential Skills And Experience Required:
- A suitable degree or equivalent (with maths, science, or engineering content) or a minimum of 4 years appropriate experience in industry.
- Typically at least 2 years technical experience in the skill, discipline, and/or domain associated with an Engineering bias.
- Experience or knowledge of HTML based editing tools including PTC Arbortext editor/styler.
- Experience or knowledge of XML based editing tools.
- Experience or knowledge of image editing tools including Visio and GIMP.
- Experience or knowledge of the Adobe suite of tools is an advantage.
- Experience or knowledge in website creation to W3C standards.
- Knowledge of integrated logistic support or through life support engineering principles.
- Be aware of the different phases of a documentation task from release of statement of work to final delivery.
- Be aware of the department methods of tasking and budget control.
- Understand the department methods of document revision control.
- Understand the maintenance of delivered customer documentation and the use of Jira Service Desk for ticket progression and resolution.
- The author needs to meet the Company values required of an employee: Focus on a customer first mentality, act fast and own any tasking until completion. Innovate, decide and act quickly. Will have demonstrated technical expertise, problem-solving skills in a prior role. Good communication and inter-personal skills.
