Reporting to the Lead Engineer – Engineering Support, the Junior Design Engineer will play an active role in shaping the next generation of aircraft seating. You will undertake design, engineering, and development tasks for aircraft seating products, gaining hands‑on experience across multiple programmes and contributing to both production and in‑service support.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your skills in CAD design, engineering analysis, structured problem‑solving, and project management, all while working on real‑world challenges in a fast‑paced, innovative environment. You will be fully supported through mentorship and training, with exposure to regulatory compliance, customer‑facing technical activities, and engineering projects that involve complex design challenges and cross‑functional collaboration. This role provides a unique chance to build a strong foundation for a career in aircraft seating engineering while making a tangible impact on projects from day one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake design, engineering, and development tasks using CATIA V5, including 3D modelling and drawing updates.
  • Support the running of seating programmes to ensure deliverables are on time and meet customer specifications.
  • Substantiate and evaluate designs through 3D analysis, fundamental engineering calculations, and prototyping.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant airframe specifications and meet customer aesthetic and technical requirements.
  • Progress designs through to production, including carrying out design reviews, concessions, and production permits.
  • Take responsibility for chairing Engineering Change Review Board (ECRB) activities, coordinating reviews, tracking actions, and ensuring decisions are documented and implemented.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve production and in‑service issues, ensuring timely implementation of solutions in collaboration with the Engineering Support team.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as Service Bulletins, Service Instruction Letters, and Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) checks.
  • Conduct presentations internally and at technical reviews with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving techniques to engineering challenges.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage, track, and report work to ensure adherence to programme deliverables on time and to the required quality.
  • Support multiple aircraft seating programmes in parallel, collaborating with Quality, Manufacturing, Applications Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
Skills and Experience Required
  • An aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or equivalent) achieved at 2:1 or above.
  • Sufficient exposure to the latest manufacturing techniques such as composites, injection mouldings, vacuum forming, castings, forgings, extrusions, and machined from solid.
  • Possess sufficient parametric 3D CAD capability with both solid and surface modelling using best practice techniques.
  • Ability to undertake fundamental engineering hand calculations, including stress analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills and the ability to propose innovative ideas.
  • Diligent, enthusiastic and driven, with an excellent work ethic and a 'can do' attitude.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage conflicting demands.
  • Good personal time management and comfortable working to deadlines.
  • Highly adaptable and capable of making decisions in a fast and pressured environment.
  • Committed, flexible and able to multi‑task.
