Acre are proudly supporting Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) in their search for a senior, hands-on leader to take ownership of communications, public affairs, marketing and policy. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a high-impact, standalone role combining strategic leadership with day-to-day delivery.

About the Company

SBP (Sustainable Biomass Program) is a global, non-profit, multi‑stakeholder certification scheme operating at the intersection of sustainability standards, energy markets, and public policy. SBP is a leading certification scheme designed to provide assurance that biomass, whether used for energy, industry, or beyond, is sourced both legally and sustainably. SBP's certification framework covers a broad spectrum of bio-based products, including wood pellets and chips, biochar, biocarbon, and other processed wood-based and agricultural products, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements, sustainability criteria, and responsible sourcing practices. By certifying diverse biomass materials, SBP supports the transition to a low-carbon economy while promoting transparency, traceability, and best practices across the supply chain. SBP is increasingly engaged in complex regulatory and market discussions (EU and global), while also expanding into new markets and new use cases (e.g. carbon-related markets).

You will shape and articulate the organisation's voice, lead its positioning in evolving markets, and play a central role in influencing policy at the EU and international level. Success will come from your ability to operate as a "player-leader," personally delivering high-quality outputs while coordinating specialist external partners.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and deliver all communications and public relations activity, including drafting key materials such as press releases, speeches, thought leadership, and crisis communications.
  • Own and execute the organisation's marketing strategy, positioning it in new markets and translating technical expertise into compelling value propositions.
  • Take full responsibility for policy and public affairs engagement, including authoring consultation responses and representing the organisation in key forums.
  • Personally develop core publications and strategic documents, including annual reports, policy papers, and organisational strategies.
  • Design and deliver stakeholder engagement activities, including international forums, events, and direct engagement with regulators, NGOs, and industry stakeholders.

About you

  • 8-10+ years' experience in senior communications, policy, public affairs, or marketing roles, ideally within sustainability, regulation, or certification environments.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial capability, with the ability to personally produce high-quality, high-profile content.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with a hands-on, delivery-focused approach.
  • Proven ability to operate credibly with policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working independently in a lean, remote environment with high levels of ownership and accountability.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a highly visible, influential role at the forefront of sustainability, policy, and global market development. You'll work directly with senior leadership, shape critical narratives in a rapidly evolving sector, and have a genuine impact on international policy and industry practice—all within a flexible, fully remote working model.
