About the roleThe Environmental Sustainability Manager will work closely with senior sustainability leadership to develop and deliver the organisation\’s environmental strategy. The role leads the Environmental Management System, including maintaining ISO14001 certification, and supports environmental reporting and delivery of Net Zero Carbon objectives. A strong emphasis of the role is site-level delivery, working across estates, developments, and green spaces to embed environmental best practice. The role will also lead to the development and delivery of environmental training, including maintaining the organisation\’s status as an approved training centre. Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, the role will build awareness, capability, and improvements in environmental performance to support delivery of the organisation\’s corporate strategy.
Key responsibilities
Support senior sustainability leadership in the ongoing development and implementation of the organisation\’s environmental strategy and delivery plans
Lead the ongoing development and implementation of Biodiversity and Zero Waste commitments
Lead on improving the collection, monitoring, and maintenance of high-quality environmental data
Chair the organisation\’s environmental working group
Attend internal forums to support alignment of decision-making with the sustainability strategy
Review development proposals and landscaping plans to ensure compliance and alignment with environmental commitments
Develop and deliver an ongoing programme of engagement and communication with key stakeholder groups
Lead the development, implementation, oversight, and reporting of the Environmental Management System and associated advisory services
Key requirementsSkills and knowledge
A strong passion for, and up-to-date knowledge of, environmental sustainability
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong organisational and project management skills
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply knowledge in new contexts and solve complex problems
Ability to influence others and lead effectively within teams
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships
Confidence in analysing environmental data and presenting findings to different audiences
Ability to travel and work independently from home or other remote settings
Experience
Dedicated experience within construction, property management, or a similar sector, focused on the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies at both the site level and strategically
Experience working with Environmental Management Systems certified to ISO14001:2015
A strong communicator, having worked with senior leaders and influenced decision-making at all levels
Strategic thinking, developing and implementing complex, long-term strategies
Experience delivering environmental training, ideally to a recognised standard
Experience managing team members and supporting their development
