A leading global hedge fund is looking for a Software Engineer to join a central engineering team deployed onto some of the firm's highest-impact engineering challenges.
Rather than joining a single product team, you'll embed with Portfolio Managers, Trading, Risk, Investor Relations and Operations to design and build bespoke software, data platforms, and analytics that directly influence how the firm invests and operates.
One month you could be building analytics to optimise trading execution and reduce transaction costs; the next, developing platforms that enable investment teams to answer complex questions themselves.
You'll have exposure to projects across almost every part of the business.
What You'll Do
- Partner directly with Portfolio Managers, Investor Relations, Trading, Risk, and Operations to solve complex technical problems.
- Design and build backend systems, APIs, data pipelines, and analytics platforms used across the firm.
- Develop bespoke tools that improve investment decision-making, execution quality, and operational efficiency.
- Work across a wide variety of high-impact projects rather than a single product or team.
- Take ownership from problem definition through to production, working directly with stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
What We're Looking For
- Strong backend software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience building distributed systems, data platforms, or data-intensive applications.
- Strong Python programming experience.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Engineers who enjoy ambiguity, variety, and solving new problems.
- Why Apply
If you enjoy solving new problems rather than maintaining the same service for years, this is a rare opportunity to work across almost every function of a global investment business.
You'll partner directly with senior stakeholders, tackle a constant stream of greenfield engineering challenges, and build software that directly improves investment decisions, trading efficiency, and the firm's ability to scale.
All conversations confidential.

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. ✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
