Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Freight Forwarder, based in Portsmouth with the option for some remote working. The Freight Forwarder will manage day-to-day freight operations, including coordinating the transportation of goods via road. Responsibilities include effectively relaying information between customers and subcontractors to ensure the accurate and profitable operation of the Freight Forwarding Department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain / develop good working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Issue detailed instructions to carriers, ensuring they have all the necessary documentation and information to follow the correct customs process for export / import formalities
  • Updating customs information on Transport software (CargoWise)
  • Daily contact with carriers to obtain status updates for all loads, ensuring collections and/or deliveries are on schedule and transit times can be achieved
  • Obtaining details of trailer registration and ETA for collections and/or deliveries, compile daily report and update CargoWise accordingly
  • Monitor drivers progress as necessary to ensure everyone is aware of any problems before they occur
  • Manage/oversee orders from customers, from quotation and / or receipt of bookings through to supply of POD
  • Check all jobs for accuracy
  • Update the transport software (CargoWise) with the final delivery confirmation once received from suppliers
  • Liaise with customers/consignors/consignees and colleagues as required in order to book collections and deliveries as required and ensure they are advised of any delays or changes in schedules
  • Negotiate freight rates with customers and carriers for ‘spot’ rates and any supplementary charges, referring to a Senior Freight Forwarder for guidance
  • Create / Update Orders and Business Partners on CargoWise as required
  • Help maintain the team mailboxes
  • Take appropriate action, referring to a Senior Freight Forwarder as necessary, to rectify and problems and keep customers informed of any resulting delays
  • Upload all instructions, documents and emails to the relevant order
  • In the afternoon; check that carriers have received instructions for the next day and that transports are on schedule
  • In the event of any incident possibly leading to an insurance claim, you must check the appropriate action with Senior Freight Forwarder
  • Add the necessary details for the relevant file on CargoWise in the Complaints Management menu and forward details to the claims’ email

Qualifications

  • Expertise in Freight Forwarding and Freight Transportation operations
  • Experience handling Export and Import processes
  • Strong Customer Service skills and the ability to maintain client relationships
  • Knowledge of regulations and documentation for freight logistics
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proficiency in using logistics-related software and tools
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a hybrid work environment
  • Previous experience in a similar role and familiarity with international shipping networks is a plus

We ask that all candidates have a maximum commute time of approximately 30 minutes or less.

Job Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Salary: £25,000 - £29,000 depending on experience
