Main duties of the job

In this new role, you\’ll use your expertise, compassion and clinical skills to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people who have a range of complex health needs and life limiting or life-threatening conditions.

In this new role, youll use your expertise, compassion and clinical skills to provide comprehensive,evidence-basednursingcaretochildren andyoungpeople whohavearangeofcomplexhealthneeds and life limiting or life-threatening conditions.

About the Role

Acorns provides care for babies, children and young people, who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Our Childrens Palliative Community Nurses are part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team delivering care that is tailored to each childs individual holistic needs.

As a Childrens Palliative Community Nurse, you will:

  • Deliver evidence-based end of life and symptom management and after death care to children and young people outside of the hospice
  • Use clinical skills including, but not limited to, caring for children who require long term ventilation,tracheostomycare,oxygentherapy,suction, syringe drivers andenteralfeedsetc.Theseskillswillbe gained by completing competency-based training.
  • Be responsiblefortheassessment,developmentandevaluationofnursingcareplans forchildrenandyoungpeoplewithcomplexhealthneedsincludinglifelimitingandlife-threatening conditions and their families.
  • Empower children, young people and their relatives to make decisions about their care and to exercise choice
  • Travel within a designated geographic area to visit patients in their homes or community settings
  • This role requires autonomous lone working, making clinical decisions and managing patient care independently while coordinating with other healthcare providers as necessary

About You

  • Registered Childrens nurse, having completed preceptorship
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care
  • Proven experience of delivering care within a community environment
  • Experience of working with children with complex health needs
  • Ability to travel independently around the Acorns region

Interviews are scheduled to be held on 17 February

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references. In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.
