The Health and Wellbeing Tutor plays a key role in supporting adults who are unemployed or distanced from the job market to improve their overall wellbeing, confidence, and personal development. Through engaging and supportive teaching, you will help learners build the physical, mental, and emotional resilience needed to move closer to employment or further learning opportunities. This role is about more than delivering content — it’s about inspiring positive lifestyle changes, nurturing self-belief, and empowering individuals to overcome barriers and take steps towards a more independent and fulfilling future. You will create an inclusive and motivating learning environment where learners feel safe, valued, and encouraged to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, in-person and remote delivered sessions focused on improving learners’ wellbeing, confidence, self-care, personal development, and life skills.
  • Tailor delivery to support learners with complex barriers to employment, including long-term unemployment, mental health challenges, or low confidence.
  • Support learners in setting realistic personal and professional goals and develop action plans that help move them closer to work or further training.
  • Facilitate group discussions, reflective activities, and interactive learning to help build social skills, motivation, and resilience.
  • Provide individual support and encouragement to help learners overcome challenges and sustain positive progress.
  • Regularly assess learners' wellbeing and progress, adapting learning strategies accordingly to meet individual needs.
  • Build trust and rapport with learners, offering a safe, non-judgmental space where they feel empowered to take steps forward.
  • Liaise with internal teams, support services, and external agencies to ensure wraparound support is in place for learners.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and outcomes to support tracking and continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about developments in wellbeing, employability, and adult learning to ensure best practice delivery.

Qualifications and specific training

  • Minimum Level 3 teaching learning and assessment qualification, such as AET or PTLLS (essential)
  • Level 3 qualification in a related field (essential)
  • Level 3 CAVA (essential)
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths (essential)
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to vehicle/business insurance for travel (essential)
  • Level 4 IQA qualification (desirable)
  • Level 5 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) or equivalent (desirable)
  • IOSH Health and Safety at Work qualification (desirable)
  • First Aid at Work qualification (desirable)

Experience

  • Experience working with adults who are unemployed or experiencing barriers to work (essential)
  • Experience supporting individuals with wellbeing needs, such as mental health, low confidence, or isolation (essential)
  • Experience delivering group sessions or workshops (essential)
  • Experience in a similar training or employability support role (desirable)
  • Experience in multi-agency working or referral processes (desirable)

Knowledge

  • Understanding of the barriers faced by economically inactive or vulnerable adults
  • Awareness of mental health, wellbeing, and resilience-building practices
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR responsibilities
  • Familiarity with local employability and community support services
  • Understanding of national wellbeing frameworks (e.g., 5 Ways to Wellbeing)
