The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing a £25 million spend and £7 million inventory. The role involves managing a dynamic team, building strong supplier relationships, and implementing effective procurement strategies to ensure the company's purchasing operations run smoothly and efficiently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Management: Lead and manage the purchasing team, including task prioritization, issue escalation, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships. This includes visiting UK-based suppliers and occasional international travel (3-4 trips per year) and overnight stays.
  • Range Development: Collaborate with the Product Team to identify, validate, and integrate new products and suppliers, ensuring internal standards are met.
  • Demand Planning: Develop and implement processes to maintain the right stock levels in line with customer demand schedules and forecasts, engaging regularly with Sales and Product teams.
  • Financial Performance: Lead initiatives for cost reductions and value additions across all suppliers, including negotiating price, MOQ, MOV, specification, shipping costs, rebate generation, and payment terms.
  • Continual Improvement: Identify, validate, and implement process improvements within the Purchasing department to remove/reduce risk and inefficiencies.
  • Quality Management: Manage and resolve issues identified through purchasing non-conformances and customer complaints, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Social & Ethical Responsibility: Support the company's CSR program by managing the supplier portfolio and selecting global transportation options.
  • Administration: Ensure accurate records are maintained in the ERP system, enabling effective report generation and data analysis. Collaborate with Warehouse and Finance teams to resolve stock and invoicing issues.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proven experience in a Purchasing Manager role or similar.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier management abilities.
  • Proficient in demand planning and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as required.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Good Product knowledge.
  • Good understanding of the organisation’s goals and objectives.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • CIPS Qualifications.
  • Leadership & Management Training and Experience is essential.
