Pewsey Vale School is looking for a highly skilled Head of History to join its successful History Department, with effect from January 2027 or as soon as available. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced teacher to lead History within our large and hardworking department, supporting the team in raising attainment and challenging students to achieve their best. Previous experience in a similar leadership role is advantageous.

Pewsey Vale is a small but thriving co-educational school, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 16 years. Located in the village of Pewsey, our school community works together to ensure that all students are supported to reach their full potential in both their academic and personal development. As a school, we provide a supportive and challenging learning environment where every student is recognised as an individual and empowered to succeed. We believe in teaching that engages students and challenges them to exceed expectation and take risks so they can be resilient, creative and successful individuals. The successful candidate will share our passion for empowering all pupils to succeed, and be able to teach History across the full age and ability range, up to A Level. QTS status is essential for the role.

  • Can plan and deliver lessons and sequences of lessons to the highest standard that ensure real learning takes place and students make superior progress;

  • Has a commitment to extra-curricular activities;
  • Is aware of current initiatives in history;
  • Is an effective team member who can contribute positively to the work in the History Department and our school;
  • Has a positive, cheerful outlook with a good sense of humour;
  • Is able to forge good relationships with students and staff;
  • Is able to work hard and remain calm under pressure;
  • Has a desire to work within the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) structure.
