About the Role
At Belmont Secondary School, we don’t just teach—we change lives. We’re on the lookout for a Teaching Assistant (Pupil Support Worker) with heart, resilience, and a passion for helping students shine—no matter the challenges they face. This is more than just a support role. This is about being the steady hand, the encouraging smile, and the person a young learner trusts to guide them through the good days (and the tougher ones too). As a Pupil Support Worker, you'll work side‑by‑side with teachers and pupils to build a calm, nurturing, and positive classroom environment where students can thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small group support in lessons across a range of subjects
- Help implement tailored educational programmes and behaviour plans
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, encouraging positive relationships and self‑belief
- Prepare learning materials and resources to bring lessons to life
- Accompany pupils and staff on educational visits and enrichment activities
- Occasionally support with transporting pupils (e.g. after detentions or school trips)
- Keep clear records of student progress and wellbeing, contributing to a holistic picture of each learner
Qualifications
- Has Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Has a calm, patient and caring approach—especially in challenging moments
- Loves working with young people and is passionate about making learning accessible for everyone
- Can build strong, supportive relationships with pupils and staff alike
- Has experience working with secondary‑age pupils (ideal but not essential)
- Can work as part of a team but is also confident taking initiative
- Believes in the potential of every student—and won’t give up on them
