Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturer within the pharmaceutical and nutritional products sector for a Senior Quality Assurance Officer (Operations) to join their Quality team at their Somerset manufacturing site. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quality professional with strong leadership experience to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of product quality, safety and regulatory compliance while providing day‑to‑day leadership to the QA Operations team. Reporting to the Quality Operations Manager, you will act as a senior member of the Quality department, supporting manufacturing operations and deputising for the manager when required. You will be responsible for overseeing quality activities across production, ensuring compliance with GMP and relevant industry standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the site.

Key Duties

  • Supervise the QA Operations team and provide day‑to‑day leadership.
  • Deputise for the Quality Operations Manager as required.
  • Act as the primary quality contact for production teams, providing expert guidance on quality‑related issues.
  • Allocate and coordinate QA resources to support efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct batch record reviews and ensure documentation compliance.
  • Oversee final product inspections and product release activities.
  • Lead investigations into deviations, complaints and quality events, including root cause analysis and CAPA implementation.
  • Support achievement of production and release targets through timely quality review activities.
  • Facilitate internal audits and ensure audit findings are effectively addressed.
  • Maintain compliance with Quality Management Systems, GMP requirements and food/feed safety regulations.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across quality processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to drive quality excellence.
  • Mentor and develop team members, promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree in a STEM‑related discipline preferred but not essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a quality role in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of GMP, ISO, FEMAS or similar quality standards.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality excellence.
