Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an experienced and HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to join a busy Haematology and Coagulation laboratory in Weston-super-Mare. This locum opportunity is ideal for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist, Haematology Biomedical Scientist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist with strong experience in Haematology, Coagulation and blood film morphology. You will support the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic laboratory service, ensuring accurate and timely results that contribute directly to patient care.

Key Duties
- Support the day-to-day operational running of the Haematology and Coagulation department.
- Perform routine and specialist Haematology and Coagulation testing, including result validation and authorisation.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform quality checks on laboratory analysers.
- Process diagnostic samples within agreed turnaround times, ensuring urgent work is prioritised appropriately.
- Authorise and release patient results in accordance with SOPs, quality standards, and professional guidelines.
- Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
- Support laboratory compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate sample traceability and laboratory records using WinPath LIMS.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory colleagues, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams to support service delivery and patient care.
- Support service improvement and training activities within the laboratory.
Requirements
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Experience working at Band 6 level within a Haematology laboratory.
- Strong experience in Haematology and Coagulation.
- Morphology trained with experience in blood film interpretation.
- Hands-on experience with Beckman Coulter DxH 900 analysers.
- Experience using Werfen ACL TOP analysers.
- Experience using Remisol Middleware.
- Experience using WinPath LIMS.
- Experience with Cellavision.
- Experience with Aerospray.
- Experience conducting malaria parasitology investigations.
- Experience with HbA1c processing using Sebia Capillarys 3 Tera.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems, IQC, EQA, and accreditation requirements.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently within a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
Desirable Skills
- Blood Transfusion experience.
- Experience using Immucor Werfen Echo Lumena analysers.
- Previous experience working within an ISO 15189-accredited laboratory.
- Experience supporting laboratory service improvement and training activities.
