Waltham Forest Council is seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join our Children’s Services Assessment Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive local authority committed to keeping children safe, supporting families effectively, and promoting positive long-term outcomes.
About the Role You will hold a manageable caseload of around 11–15 children, completing high-quality Child and Family Assessments under Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989. The work will involve managing new referrals, undertaking risk assessments, and working collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies to identify needs and implement support plans.
You will participate in child protection conferences, strategy meetings, and legal planning forums, ensuring that all work meets statutory requirements and best practice standards.
What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualifying experience, including substantial frontline statutory work in Children’s Services (Assessment, Child Protection or Safeguarding)
  • Strong working knowledge of key legislation including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and related guidance
  • Ability to produce high-quality reports and assessments, manage competing priorities, and work effectively within a multi-agency framework
  • Commitment to relationship-based practice and continuous professional development
