The purpose of the SEND Resources Technician role is to enable Calderdale Local Authority (LA) to:

  • Promote and sustain the inclusion of children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local, mainstream schools and educational settings.
  • Build capacity within educational settings to ensure that CYP with SEND have their needs identified and assessed as early as possible.
  • Empower CYP with SEND and their families to engage in support in their school or educational settings, in the community and across education, health and care services.
  • Ensure a continuum of provision for CYP with SEND across the borough so that they have access to the right support, at the right time and in the right way.
  • Uphold the legal obligations and principles enshrined in equalities law so that all CYP with SEND are free from discrimination and can live their best lives.

Structure

  • Responsible to: SEND Specialist Coordinator
  • Smarter Working Profile: Works from a designated council workplace allocation, attending other workplaces as required. Willingness to work flexibly to attend meetings, deliver training and undertake specific duties which may include outside of school hours.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop the technological systems, software, equipment and resources to provide educational materials / technology for CYP with SEND to access the national and school curriculum.
  • Ensure the provision of a service for formatting, reproducing, collating, indexing and binding Braille and large print books, drawings, diagrams and curriculum materials for CYP with SEND.
  • Establish effective professional working relationships with agencies and personnel within SIT and across education, health and care services in relation to the assessment, procurement, maintenance and review of specialist resources and equipment.
  • Oversee the provision, storage and maintenance of equipment, resources and materials.
  • Produce and maintain an index of resources/inventory and manage a booking system for the loan of resources and equipment.
  • Produce and disseminate user guidance, demonstrations or explanations in how to use resources to maximum benefit.
  • Produce and edit digital video/image presentations in collaboration with SIT staff.
  • Develop and produce publicity materials, for example newsletters, brochures, websites for the team as required.
  • Work with staff and stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of resources and equipment.
  • Keep abreast of national matters and developments in relation to SEND digital technologies, equipment and resources, and ensure the ongoing efficacy of the team’s approach to such.
  • Work collaboratively with the SEND Specialist Officers, Teachers and Coordinators in relation to matters of technology, equipment and resources.
  • Report and maintain necessary data and information systems as required by the role.
  • Participate in professional development associated with the post.
  • Maintain and promote high aspirations for CYP with SEND and always work toward enabling the CYP to achieve the best possible educational, and other, outcomes.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and deportment in all undertakings on behalf of the SIT, working in line with the SIT’s principles and priorities and acting at all times as an advocate for the Council.
