The Royal Borough of Kingston is seeking an experienced and dedicated Mental Health Social Worker to join our large and supportive Mental Health Social Care Team (MHSCT). This is a unique opportunity to progress your career within a specialist service that actively supports professional development, including AMHP training.

About the Team

The MHSCT is one of two specialist teams in Adult Social Care. We carry out statutory responsibilities under the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005. Our work includes supporting adults with primary mental health needs, autism, substance misuse issues, and young people transitioning to adult services. We work in partnership with NHS mental health teams, wards, primary care, and a wide network of community organisations. The team also delivers the council's AMHP service.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will:

  • Hold a caseload of complex cases under the Care Act 2014
  • Complete assessments, reviews, and safeguarding enquiries
  • Work closely with health partners and contribute to multi-disciplinary work
  • Manage cases involving the Court of Protection as needed
  • Supervise students and newly qualified staff
  • Receive regular supervision and development support

You’ll be supported to apply for AMHP training, with dedicated time and guidance to qualify. AMHPs receive two additional pay increments once qualified.

About You

We are looking for a qualified, SWE-registered social worker with:

  • Statutory experience supporting adults with mental health needs
  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act and safeguarding practice
  • Confidence working with risk and complexity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach to multi-agency working
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or substance misuse issues in a statutory context is essential.
