SEND Assessment Officer (East London) – Hybrid

An East London Council is seeking experienced SEND Assessment Officers to join its SEND Service on an interim basis.

The successful candidate will manage statutory assessment work, draft high‑quality Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and work closely with families, schools and multi‑agency professionals to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support.

Salary: up to £300 per day (DOE). Job type: Day to Day Cover. Location: London. Hybrid working arrangement – one day on site every Wednesday is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of statutory Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments.
  • Draft clear, compliant, and person‑centred Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Coordinate the statutory assessment process, ensuring all legal timescales are met.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, schools, educational settings and partner agencies throughout the assessment process.
  • Request, review, and analyse professional advice from Education, Health and Social Care professionals.
  • Ensure EHCPs accurately reflect assessed needs, provision, and intended outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate case records and update relevant case‑management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑agency professionals to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Ensure statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice are met at all times.

Requirements

  • Recent experience working within a Local Authority SEND Service as a SEND Assessment Officer, SEND Case Officer, or SEND Caseworker.
  • Proven experience drafting new Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Experience completing statutory assessment work.
  • Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and associated legislation.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and work to statutory deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
