We are currently recruiting an experienced Housing Solutions Reviews Officer to join a busy Housing Needs service. This is a specialist role requiring strong technical knowledge of homelessness legislation and proven experience of statutory reviews.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, legally robust reviews and appeals service, ensuring decisions comply with statutory requirements and can withstand legal scrutiny. Working independently, you will manage complex homelessness review cases and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including legal representatives, advocates, and internal housing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake statutory homelessness reviews under Housing Act 1996 Part 7 (s202)
- Issue well-reasoned, legally sound review decisions within statutory timescales
- Apply the Homelessness Code of Guidance, Review Regulations, and relevant case law
- Liaise with legal services, including preparing cases for court and responding to Judicial Review threats
- Work collaboratively with housing and temporary accommodation teams to manage risk and cost
- Handle correspondence from solicitors, MPs, councillors, and other representatives
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with information governance requirements
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of 12 months’ experience (within the last 2 years) undertaking Homelessness Part 7 s202 reviews
- Proven, in-depth understanding of:
- Housing Act 1996 (as amended)
- Homelessness Reduction Act
- Homelessness Review Regulations
- Homelessness Code of Guidance
- Relevant homelessness case law
Desirable Knowledge
- Equality Act, Care Act, Mental Health legislation, Children Act, Immigration legislation, and Welfare Reform
- Experience representing or supporting cases at court or appeal stage
