Make an Impact Where It Matters: This is a high-profile, specialist reviews role for an experienced homelessness professional who thrives on complex casework, legal challenge, and decision-making at senior level. You'll be trusted to deliver independent Section 202 reviews that directly influence outcomes for vulnerable households, protect public funds, and stand up to legal scrutiny. If you enjoy autonomy, technical depth, and meaningful work — this role delivers all three.

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • Specialist statutory reviews work — not front-line caseholding
  • High autonomy and professional credibility in decision-making
  • Exposure to complex, high-risk cases and legal challenge
  • Opportunity to influence service quality and reduce unlawful decisions
  • Fast-paced environment for experienced officers who like responsibility

Please note: this role is strictly for candidates with recent Section 202 review experience.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading Homelessness Part 7 Section 202 reviews from start to finish
  • Producing clear, defensible, legally robust review decisions
  • Interpreting and applying complex legislation, guidance, and case law
  • Liaising with solicitors, advocates, internal services, and external agencies
  • Instructing legal services and supporting Housing Act appeals and court proceedings
  • Managing caseloads efficiently to meet statutory deadlines
  • Ensuring decisions protect the authority from legal and financial risk

Essential Criteria (Non-Negotiable):

  • At least 12 months' experience in the last 2 years undertaking Homelessness Part 7 Section 202 reviews
  • Strong, practical knowledge of:
  • Housing Act 1996 (as amended)
  • Homelessness Reduction Act
  • Homelessness Code of Guidance
  • Review Regulations and relevant case law
  • Proven experience writing statutory review decision letters
  • Local authority homelessness or housing reviews background
  • Candidates without recent s202 review experience will not be considered.
  • Desirable Experience:

    • Representing a local authority in appeals or court settings
    • Knowledge of Equality Act, Care Act, Mental Health legislation, Immigration and Children legislation

    What's in It for You?

    • Challenging, meaningful work at the sharp end of homelessness law
    • Competitive contract rates reflecting specialist expertise
    • Opportunity to step into a senior, respected reviews function
    • Immediate or short-notice starts available
