Medway Council is seeking a committed Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. This part-time role offers the opportunity to ensure high-quality services for children and young people in need of protection and those looked after by the Council.

Key Responsibilities:

• Chair complex case conferences and review meetings, ensuring full participation of children, young people, families, and professionals.
• Independently review care plans in compliance with statutory guidance.
• Challenge actions and interventions that are not delivering required outcomes.
• Contribute to quality assurance and performance management to maintain high practice standards.
• Promote children and young people’s voices, rights, and wellbeing in all decisions.

Person Specification:

• Recognised professional Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
• Minimum of 5 years post-qualifying experience, including statutory child protection and looked-after children work.
• Extensive experience in Family Court proceedings, PLO processes, and safeguarding frameworks.
• Strong skills in report writing, communication, and engaging with children, young people, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and current social work research.
• Competent in Microsoft Office and electronic children’s systems (e.g., MOSAIC).
• Full driving licence and daily use of a car.
