Job Title: SEND Tribunal Officer Location: South Yorkshire LA Salary: £500 per day umbrella Contract Type: 3 months We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated SEND Tribunal Officer, ideally with knowledge of the local area and our schools About the Role: As a SEND Tribunal Officer, you will play a vital role in managing and responding to appeals made to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal. You will work closely with families, schools, legal representatives, and internal teams to ensure that statutory processes are followed and that the local authority meets its legal obligations under the Children and Families Act 2014. Key Responsibilities: Represent the local authority in SEND Tribunal proceedings, including preparing written submissions and coordinating responses. Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, schools, and families on legal processes and SEND legislation. Ensure that statutory deadlines are met, and that documentation is thorough, accurate, and compliant. Liaise effectively with legal services, advocates, and mediators to manage appeals and disputes constructively. Analyse tribunal decisions and outcomes to inform policy and improve service delivery. About You: You will be an excellent communicator with a strong understanding of SEND legislation, including the EHCP process and the SEND Code of Practice. You will be confident in managing complex casework and have experience of working in a legal or education-focused environment. Essential Criteria: In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and the EHCP process. Experience managing SEND appeals and tribunals. Strong analytical, organisational, and written communication skills. Ability to work sensitively with families and young people, often in challenging circumstances. A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
