An exciting opportunity has arisen within Adult Social Care for an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join the MEAP Moving and Handling Team. This role focuses on providing specialist moving and handling assessments and recommendations to support citizens in maintaining independence, safety, and quality of life within their own homes.
The successful candidate will have experience in moving and handling, equipment, and adaptations, including assessing and recommending solutions such as ceiling track hoists and other manual handling equipment.
The role holder will deliver a comprehensive and streamlined service to support individuals, families, and carers, ensuring people are able to live as independently as possible while reducing risk and promoting safe care practices.
Main Duties:
- Undertake complex moving and handling assessments within community settings
- Complete moving and handling risk assessments and recommend appropriate interventions
- Assess for and recommend specialist equipment and adaptations, including ceiling track hoists, slings, and other manual handling equipment
- Provide training and guidance to family members and paid carers in the safe use of manual handling equipment
- Support individuals to maintain independence and safety within their own homes
- Work closely with health professionals, care agencies, families, and other stakeholders
- Contribute to the delivery of a cohesive, efficient, and cost-effective moving and handling service
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with professional and organisational standards
- Promote best practice in manual handling and safe care delivery
Requirements:
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
- Relevant professional registration (HCPC)
- Accredited Manual Handling of People Training
- Experience conducting moving and handling risk assessments in community settings
- Experience recommending and assessing for manual handling equipment such as hoists and slings
- Experience training carers and families in the use of moving and handling equipment
- Trusted Assessor Level 4 qualification or substantial experience assessing for equipment and major adaptations for activities of daily living
- Strong assessment, communication, and training skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with health services, care providers, and families
