A local authority in Liverpool is looking to recruit an experienced Commissioning Officer to join their Children’s Services team. The role ensures services for children, young people, and families are effective, efficient, and meet local needs. The postholder will work closely with children’s social care, health, education, and partner agencies to commission, manage, and monitor services and projects that deliver positive outcomes for young people.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Commission services for children, young people, and families, working with social care, health, education, and partner agencies.
  • Work with procurement, legal, and finance colleagues to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and agreements.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Commissioning and Sufficiency Strategy.
  • Manage and monitor contracts, preparing reports on risks or issues.
  • Lead projects to improve service delivery, achieve value for money, and meet strategy goals.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder relationships and ensure best practice in procurement and contract management.
  • Prioritise and manage work in line with guidance from line manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts.

Requirements:

  • Experience in commissioning Children’s Services; experience in education commissioning (e.g., Alternative Provision) is a plus.
  • Experience in project management, financial monitoring, and contract performance management.
  • Experience working strategically with other departments, including procurement.
  • Strong reporting, data analysis, and teamworking skills.
  • Degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.

Additional Information:

  • 2 days minimum on site per week
  • £400–450 per day (LTD status)
  • 3 months initial placement
