Contract: Temporary – 3 Months Initially

Rate: £320 to £340 Per Day Umbrella

Location: Northwest England, Merseyside (2 days a week in office)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior SEND Caseworker to join a local authority SEND service on an interim basis. The post holder will manage a complex caseload of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) while also providing professional oversight, guidance and support to SEND Caseworkers to ensure statutory compliance and high-quality practice across the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex and high-priority caseload of EHCPs in line with statutory requirements
  • Lead on new EHC needs assessments, including complex cases and tribunal-related work
  • Oversee and quality assure annual reviews and EHCP amendments
  • Draft, review and sign off high-quality, legally compliant EHCPs
  • Provide practice guidance, mentoring and case oversight to SEND Caseworkers
  • Support the resolution of complaints, mediations and SEND Tribunal matters
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers, schools and partner agencies in complex cases
  • Ensure statutory timescales and service performance targets are met
  • Contribute to service improvement, audits and policy development
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to reporting requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Significant experience working as a SEND Caseworker or Senior SEND Caseworker within a local authority
  • In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
  • Proven experience managing complex EHCP cases and providing case oversight
  • Strong EHCP drafting and quality assurance skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while supporting and guiding others
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands
