We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Early Years Business Manager to lead on the management and delivery of Early Years funding across the local authority. This is a key strategic and operational role, ensuring that Early Years entitlements are administered accurately, efficiently and in line with DfE guidance, while supporting strong partnership working with providers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the delivery and management of Early Years funding, including both capital and revenue streams.
  • Ensure a thorough and up-to-date understanding of the DfE’s Early Years Entitlements, and oversee accurate distribution of payments to registered early years providers.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with early years providers and internal stakeholders, promoting a collaborative and solution-focused approach.
  • Manage, support and develop a small team, ensuring high performance and professional practice.
  • Oversee and make effective use of the Synergy system to manage funding, data and processes.
  • Work proactively to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities and operational demands.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, streamlining processes and implementing more efficient ways of working.

Essential Criteria

  • In-depth knowledge of the DfE’s Early Years Entitlements, including capital and revenue funding.
  • Proven experience of distributing funding to early years providers in line with statutory requirements.
  • Strong partnership working skills, with the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships.
  • A sound working knowledge of the Synergy system.
  • Experience of managing and supporting a small team.
  • A proactive, responsive approach with the ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Criteria

  • Comprehensive operational knowledge of Early Years services, including awareness of best practice from other local authorities.
  • Experience of optimising system usage, particularly Synergy.
  • A track record of challenging outdated ways of working and supporting the rapid implementation of service improvements.

Remote working/work at home options are available for this role.
