A specialist Alternative Provision provider supporting children and young people who face barriers to accessing mainstream education. We deliver personalised, child-centred education to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, ADHD, anxiety, Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) and other complex needs.

We are recruiting passionate, experienced and dedicated SEN Tutors to deliver one-to-one education to pupils across West Sussex, from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4. Our pupils may have experienced significant challenges within mainstream education and require a patient, understanding and creative approach to learning.

As an SEN Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to each child's needs, abilities, interests and educational goals. This is a flexible, term-time-only opportunity. Individual pupil placements typically offer 6–15 hours per week, with the opportunity to take on additional placements and gradually build towards a full-time timetable, subject to availability. Sessions may take place in pupils' homes, community settings or other suitable learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, child-centred one-to-one tuition across KS1–KS4.
  • Plan engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to each pupil's needs and abilities.
  • Support pupils with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD, anxiety and EBSA.
  • Deliver core subjects, particularly English and Maths, alongside wider educational development.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment.
  • Use trauma-informed, flexible and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Work towards individual learning targets and EHCP outcomes where appropriate.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, attendance and engagement.
  • Complete session reports and provide regular updates to the AP Education team.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools and other professionals where appropriate.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and maintain professional standards.

About You:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring children and young people with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs.
  • Experience working with pupils within KS1–KS4.
  • Strong understanding of child-centred and differentiated teaching.
  • Ability to plan and deliver personalised, engaging learning sessions.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with complex needs or difficulties engaging with education.
  • A patient, empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
  • Willingness to travel to pupil placements across West Sussex.

Desirable Requirements:

  • QTS, QTLS or a relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience in Alternative Provision, SEND settings or PRUs.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs, trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.
  • Experience supporting pupils with EBSA or school exclusion.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills or GCSE preparation.
  • Access to your own transport.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay of £25–£35 per hour.
  • Flexible working hours to suit your availability.
