Multi Skilled Roofer in Slough

Are you a Roofer who likes to undertake all types of Roofing and Joinery? Do you like being left alone to just 'crack on' but know that support is there if you need it? If so, this could well be the role for you.

A typical day might include:

• Undertaking all types of joinery/roofing works, as set out in the joinery & roofing skills matrix.
• Works involving both emergency and scheduled responsive repairs as well as more extensive renovation works to properties.
• Undertaking ground works, general construction and plastering/wall finishing in an organised and controlled manner, both in isolation and alongside other trades.
• Being part of a new team to help grow, identifying opportunities to deliver a better service and work differently.
• Delivery of a high-quality service to customers, including a range of repairs.
• Ensuring the correct materials are in the right place at the right time to deliver a seamless service for customers.
• Working unsupervised in occupied and unoccupied properties, ensuring tools and equipment are used safely.
• Liaising with customers and the wider Acis team to ensure jobs are completed on time, to budget and to a high standard.
• Ensuring all equipment, plant, materials and vehicles are handled correctly, well maintained and securely looked after, including road-worthiness checks on vehicles.
• Carrying out work activities in line with policies, procedures, risk assessments, high quality standards and in accordance with Building Regulations.
• Acquiring and maintaining a full tool kit to enable all reasonable duties to be undertaken.
• Adhering to health and safety regulations for the safety of yourself, other workers, customers and the public.
• Using ladders, roof ladders and step ladders where needed.
• Lifting of materials and component parts, tool kits, ladders, power tools.
• Fitting of materials and component parts in confined spaces and often in awkward postures.
• Working in varying conditions and in all weathers.
• Lone working with the public and in customers' homes.
• Being customer focused, showing flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of customers.
• Undertaking further training and qualifications as the job role and changing legislation demand.
• Generally working to a programme of tasks set by your line manager, though this may be interrupted by emergencies.

The must haves:

• Demonstrable experience within the construction industry with a multi-skilled approach across a number of trades with a focus on roofing.
• A full UK Driving Licence and CSCS card.
• A great understanding of the construction industry, particularly the building trade, including legislation, Health and Safety, manual handling, working at heights and so on.
• Preparedness to join the on-call rota.
• Basic IT skills and experienced user of Microsoft applications, using mobile devices to find data and documentation and to record information.
• The ability to plan ahead to ensure that all jobs can be completed on time, first time.
• Resilience; working in social housing is a challenging but rewarding career, helping to bring real change to customers' lives.

The added extras (but not essential):

• A recognised apprenticeship or trade qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ level 2, or equivalent) in Roofing/joinery.
• Ability to carry out secondary building maintenance skills such as joinery, carpentry and plastering, alongside wider maintenance activities.
• Understanding and appreciation of the needs of older, disabled and vulnerable individuals and households.
• Commitment to customer focus and high-quality delivery service.
• A positive 'can do' attitude with the ability to work under own initiative.
• Being a great timekeeper with a commitment to delivering a high-quality end product.
• Adept at change, having hands-on experience living and breathing new ways of working and knowing how to bring colleagues along for the experience.
• Knowledge and qualification to undertake asbestos removal (non-licensed) or willingness to be trained.
