Love food, people, and making a difference? We're looking for a passionate and personable Catering Assistant to join our team and help transform lives through food, learning, and opportunity. This is more than a catering role; it's a chance to use your hospitality skills to support unemployed individuals and those facing barriers to employment, helping them build confidence, develop practical cooking and customer service skills, and take positive steps towards their future.

From delivering food preparation and healthy eating sessions to supporting the day-to-day running of our café and engaging with learners, partners, and the wider community, you'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment where people can learn, grow, and succeed. What your day to day may look like:

  • Building Better Opportunities Project targets and outcomes through our Catering Employability Project, Peopleplus, CLIP and LCC Contracts
  • Deliver skills in Food Preparation and Food Service to unemployed individuals
  • Deliver Healthy Eating and Cooking classes
  • Deliver the commercial element of the Café services
  • Support management to promote the projects with referring organisations
  • Deliver programmes and service in the Café to build trade and profit
  • Deliver support services within the Centre, including project admin tasks, reception cover and liaise with partners/learners/funders
  • Deal with general enquiries and signpost accordingly
  • Support The Programme Coordinator to organise events
  • Maintain records and systems relating to the above key tasks
  • Other general duties appropriate to the level of responsibility of the post

What we are looking for:

  • Experienced in delivering Food Preparation and Food Service Skills to learners
  • Experienced in delivering a commercial catering operation
  • Experienced in meeting Food Hygiene regulations
  • Educated in all areas of hospitality (food prep and front of house)
  • Able to transfer own knowledge, skills and enthusiasm into the delivery of services
  • Experienced in supporting and working with young people and adults with barriers and difficulties
  • Able to identify the additional support needs of beneficiary groups and individuals and be confident in making appropriate referrals
  • Confident and able to take an active part in meetings and outreach activities
  • Have excellent reception and people skills
  • Have good IT skills
  • Prepared to work on own initiative and unsupervised
  • Committed to the ethos, work and all operational policies/procedures of the Centre
  • Must have own vehicle and clean driving licence

  • Qualified NVQ Assessor
  • Qualifications in PREVENT, Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity
  • Interest in gaining new skills relevant to the post
  • Understand the dynamics of the training, employment, education and voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of the issues and complexities of the education and employment sector
  • Understand the current local employer skills needs
  • Experience of utilising promotional materials for hard to reach audiences
