The predicted salary is between 20000 - 25000 £ per year.

The role is a feel-good job that offers an emotional lift for both the person doing it and the learners you support. You genuinely make a difference to young people's lives, helping them start the day feeling safe, calm, and motivated, and ensuring they get home safely at the end of the day. It's ideal for someone with life experience, maturity, and the confidence to pass that on positively; someone who enjoys local driving (Doncaster to Scunthorpe), takes pride in doing a job properly, and values building meaningful relationships while supporting the learner in various ways throughout the day.

About the learners: You'll be working with young people aged 16+ who have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) and a range of needs.

What you'll be doing: As a Community Driver, you'll play a key part in ensuring learners begin and end their day safely, positively, and on time. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Safely transporting learners to and from Skills Centre Plus sites, following agreed routes and schedules.
  • Completing daily vehicle safety and maintenance checks in line with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Taking responsibility for learner safety and safeguarding while in transit and throughout the day while offering support.
  • Creating a positive start and finish to the learning day, helping learners feel safe, supported, and motivated.
  • Communicating professionally with centre teams, parents, and carers when appropriate.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing during journeys.

What we're looking for: We're looking for someone dependable, calm, and people-focused; someone who can be a reassuring, consistent presence for learners. You'll likely be:

  • A confident driver who enjoys local routes and is comfortable with regular travel between Doncaster and Scunthorpe.
  • Naturally good at building rapport and creating a positive atmosphere.
  • Safety-minded, punctual, and proud of maintaining high standards.
  • Mature, steady, and able to handle sensitive situations appropriately.
  • A clear communicator who works well with colleagues, parents, and carers.

You’ll need:

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing.
  • To maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle.
  • To follow procedures and record/report issues accurately.
  • A full UK driving licence.

What will make you stand out from the crowd: (Don't worry if you don't tick every box):

  • MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certification (although not essential).
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Previous experience working with young people with SEND.
  • Experience in an educational or care environment.
  • Basic mechanical or vehicle maintenance knowledge.

Why this role matters: This is a hugely important role: for many learners, the journey sets the tone for the day. You'll be helping young people feel secure, supported, and ready to learn, then ensuring they end the day positively too. It's practical work with real purpose, and the impact is immediate and meaningful.

As soon as a suitable candidate is found for this role, we reserve the right to close the job advert ahead of the closing date, so please do not delay in submitting your application.
