Senior Reporting Accountant

Location: London/Hybrid (typically 3 days per week in the office)

Salary Range: Up to Β£90,000

Reporting to: Head of External Reporting

Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a technically strong Senior Reporting Accountant to join a growing specialist insurance business on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Working within a developing financial reporting function, this role will take ownership of key statutory and external reporting requirements, supporting the preparation of financial statements, year-end and interim audits, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.

The business is undergoing significant growth and investing in strengthening its finance infrastructure, improving financial controls and modernising reporting processes through technology and automation.

This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a developing function, combining hands-on technical accounting responsibilities with process improvement and collaboration across the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the preparation of statutory financial statements across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely delivery.
  • Support the preparation of group and entity-level financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support year-end and interim audit processes, working closely with external auditors to resolve queries and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and review financial reporting packs, supporting schedules, reconciliations and technical accounting documentation.
  • Analyse complex accounting transactions, determine appropriate accounting treatments and provide technical guidance to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret financial information, challenging figures where appropriate and understanding the underlying commercial drivers.
  • Maintain robust financial reporting controls, documentation and audit trails.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Finance, Treasury, Risk and other business functions to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, strengthen controls and introduce greater efficiency through automation.
  • Support wider finance transformation initiatives and ad hoc reporting requirements as the business continues to develop.

What We're Looking For

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience within statutory or external financial reporting.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience preparing statutory financial statements, rather than solely reviewing or auditing them.
  • Experience supporting or managing year-end and interim audit processes.
  • Strong understanding of relevant accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ability to assess complex accounting transactions, determine appropriate accounting treatments and communicate findings clearly.
  • Confidence interpreting financial statements, identifying potential issues and understanding the commercial context behind financial information.
  • Experience managing multiple reporting deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality financial information.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and approachable working style.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and willingness to take ownership of hands-on accounting responsibilities.

Desirable but Not Essential

  • Previous experience within the insurance industry, ideally within the Lloyd's or London Market.
  • Experience working in a complex, multi-entity or regulated financial services organisation.
  • Background in statutory accounting, group reporting or external financial reporting.
  • Experience supporting improvements to financial reporting processes, systems and internal controls.
  • Exposure to finance transformation, automation or technology-led process improvements.
