Growth Assignment in Sustainability: Contributing to Arcera’s Environmental Priorities
Duration and Time Commitment: 6 months, with possibility of extension for a second 6-month period; 20% (flexible scheduling)
Description of Assignment: The Decarb Leader will head the Energy Committee, the governing body tasked with the implementation of our decarbonization strategy. The Decarb Leader will work closely with the Sustainability team and members of the Sustainability Council. The position will report into the Sustainability Council, and specifically into the Chief TechOps Officer and Chief Compliance and Sustainability Officer who are co-sponsors of the decarbonization strategy.
Objective: Primary responsibility for the development and strategic implementation of Arcera’s decarbonization roadmap, designed to achieve net‑zero by latest 2050.
Context: Arcera recently completed a Double Materiality Assessment (“DMA”) to determine which sustainability issues should be prioritized in its strategy. This involves:
- Financial Materiality (Outside‑In): Understanding how ESG issues may affect Arcera’s financial and business performance.
- Impact Materiality (Inside‑Out): Evaluating how Arcera’s operations affect the external environment and society.
One of the eight key sustainability issues identified in the DMA process was determined to be “Energy Efficiency and Emissions Reduction”. The decarbonization strategy and roadmap are critical components of this.
Scope of Work:
- Strategy Development: Build and lead the Energy Committee (composed by each Site Head of Engineering, members of procurement teams, and any other functions whose active involvement is necessary for implementation of the decarbonization strategy). Fine‑tune Arcera’s decarbonization strategy, including an actionable decarbonization roadmap. Engage the Sustainability Council in the review and sign‑off of the decarbonization strategy and roadmap.
- Implementation of Decarbonization Strategy: Drive the implementation of the decarbonization strategy and roadmap. Oversee the implementation of energy audits, monitoring, and operational controls. Identify energy saving opportunities and prepare business cases for energy savings, energy efficiency, and renewable energy investments. Identify, evaluate, and advocate approval of appropriate capital expenditures with energy‑saving potential and reasonable return‑on‑investment. Oversee projects that are already in process.
