Casual Outreach Worker

This casual Outreach Worker position is split between the Housing, Outreach and Support Team (HOST) and the Edge of Care (EOC) Team, requiring flexibility to work with diverse families and individuals, including evenings and weekends with on-call manager support.

You\’ll provide crucial 1-to-1 specialist targeted support to children, young people, care leavers, and families in their homes and communities. This includes assisting those with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, developing life skills, setting up new homes, or navigating care proceedings.

The EOC Team specifically focuses on preventing children and young people from entering or re-entering care by providing timely outreach. This includes supporting those at imminent risk of coming into care, stabilising placements (like foster care or Special Guardianship Orders) at risk of breakdown, aiding transitions from residential to foster care, and facilitating smooth reunifications with birth families. This is a challenging yet rewarding role for flexible individuals.

  • About the role

    Work closely with the HOST/EOC manager, the young person\’s Social Worker/Personal Advisor, and other professionals to create a tailored outreach support package for each referral. At an initial meeting, agree on actions and outcomes, then consistently pursue these objectives throughout your time with the family or individual. You\’ll provide the agreed-upon outreach support, meticulously recording each session, completing all necessary risk and needs assessments, and promptly raising any safeguarding concerns.

    About you

  • GCSE (C/4) English and have a willingness to work towards Level 2 in relevant qualification in working with children or young people
  • Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of young people at risk of abuse or harm to identify and record any safeguarding issues in accordance with the Achieving for Children’s Safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience of lone working as the lead professional. We will provide specific training but experience of working alone and examples will be an essential part of this work.
  • Able to use a range of digital hardware or software to support your work effectively
  • Experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour
  • Experience of working alone in the community and holding strong boundaries
  • Experience of keeping and maintaining accurate records
  • Knowledge and understanding of the life skills needed to live independently and experience in delivering these to young people
  • Experience in inspiring young people to engage in positive activities
  • Ability to work as part of an effective, flexible and supportive team and willing to work evenings and weekends
