ABOUT THE COMPANY

ACER is an independent, not-for-profit educational research and development organisation focused on creating and promoting research-based knowledge, products and services that can be used to improve learning across the life span.

Position overview

ACER School Assessment Administrators (SAAs) are a group of skilled and experienced educational professionals who make an essential contribution to the assessment development and delivery process. Their role is to manage the assessment administration process within schools and other educational institutions to ensure assessments are administered in a standardised way and that assessment security is maintained.

Position context

ACER UK works across several projects that require SAAs across England, and we are seeking educational professionals to join our ACER AA database for future projects. For each project, training is conducted prior to the first administration and you will be paid to attend. Depending on the project, the number of schools per week is negotiable, though we would ideally like you to commit to at least 4 schools per week in any administration period. The role of SAA is great for those looking to supplement their income who can commit to travelling within a reasonable distance of their home over defined periods of time to deliver assessments. We provide our SAAs with all the training and instructions they need, and we cover pre-agreed travelling expenses. Although rates may vary depending on the requirements of the project, for most projects, SAAs can expect to earn between £20-£25 per hour plus pre-approved expenses.

Job responsibilities

The duties of the SAA will vary depending on the nature of the project and the requirements of ACER’s clients. Below is an example of the sorts of typical duties SAAs would be expected to carry out. For each project, key performance measures will be set for SAAs, which they will be required to meet.

  • Before the assessment
    • Complete training as advised by ACER (either face-to-face or online)
    • Communicate with school/educational institution personnel to arrange suitable times to conduct the assessment
    • Establish professional working relationships with the relevant school(s)/educational institution(s)
    • Receive and check assessment materials, reporting any issues immediately to ACER
    • Ensure the secure storage and management of assessment materials
  • During the assessment
    • Oversee learners who will be undertaking the assessment
    • Ensure the assessments are administered in accordance with the specified instructions
    • Accurate checking/collection of learner data
    • Accurate completion and collection of any questionnaires
    • Deal with enquiries and exceptional circumstances should they arise during the assessment and report any irregularities to ACER
    • Ensure materials are managed securely
    • Work with the class teacher in administering the test and managing pupil needs
  • After the trial
    • Check and collate assessment materials
    • Return materials to ACER as instructed
    • Communicate tracking information to ACER
