About the Job:

Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part in the HITL team. They are a key link between researchers, developers, and taskers tying together many vital but disparate parts of the data annotation ecosystem.

You develop complex, in-depth communications for internal and external audiences and manage projects that involve coordinating multiple junior writers. As a Technical Writer, you will lead complex, multidisciplinary programs. You will plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project life-cycle. Your projects often span offices, time zones and hemispheres, and you will keep all the players coordinated on the project's progress and deadlines.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in technical writing, instructional design, or a similar role, with a focus on creating instructions for human-in-the-loop tasks or rater platforms.
  • Experience in task definition and instruction design principles and best practices.
  • Experience with HTML, Python, Data analysis, Markdown, or version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and translating requirements into clear, actionable instructions for the audience.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Technical Communication, Instructional Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large-scale human evaluation platforms, crowdsourcing, or rater-based data collection programs.
  • Experience designing tasks for complex domains.
  • Experience with data analysis to inform instruction improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and data labeling processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy and execution of task design and instruction creation for GenAI programs, establishing best practices and templates.
  • Collaborate deeply with Product Areas to understand their data needs, define clear task requirements, and provide expert consultation on task design.
  • Design, write, and iterate on high-quality rater instructions and guidelines that are clear, concise, and minimise ambiguity to ensure high-quality data output.
  • Develop and implement an internal training program and comprehensive knowledge base on task design principles and best practices to empower Product Areas.
  • Transform complex and often ambiguous technical information from engineers and researchers into effective rater task designs.
  • Author, edit, and maintain a range of technical documents, including in-depth task design guides, instruction templates, and Quality Control (QC) rubrics.
  • Act as a pilot user for new workflows, refining instructions based on practical application.
